The purple berries everyone loves to call blue are incredibly good for you!

Whether you’re eating them frozen, fresh, blending them into a smoothie, or baking them into a pie, blueberries, for many, can be considered their most favorite fruit.

Blueberries are low in calories, but high in nutrients.

In fact, these berries are among the most nutrient berries of them all! A one-cup serving of blueberries has 4 grams of fiber, 24% of your recommended dose of Vitamin C, and 36% of your recommended dose of Vitamin K.

Out of all the berries, blueberries are the king of antioxidants. Antioxidants, as you may remember, are extremely important. They protect our body from damage caused by free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage cell structures and contribute to aging and diseases like cancer. In blueberries, the main antioxidant compound is flavonoids. Flavonoids are also in wine, cocoa, peanuts, black tea, and peanuts.

One aspect of being alive is simply that we grow older. No amount of blueberry eating can change that, but where blueberries can come into play is the way they can affect the oxidative DNA damage that happens every day. Blueberries can keep you just a bit safer.

In every single cell of the body, oxidative DNA damage happens tens of thousands of times per day! Because blueberries are so high in antioxidants, they can help neutralize some of the free radicals that are causing the damage in the first place.
